Description
The Shimadzu LIGHTNIRS portable functional near-infrared spectroscopy system is designed for non-invasive investigation of hemodynamic responses in the cerebral cortex using near-infrared light (fNIRS). It measures changes from baseline in oxygenated hemoglobin (Oxy-Hb), deoxygenated hemoglobin (Deoxy-Hb), and total hemoglobin (Total-Hb), enabling researchers to investigate changes in blood oxygenation associated with neuronal activity during experimental tasks.
LIGHTNIRS features a compact housing and can operate from a lithium-ion battery. The unit can be carried or worn on the participant’s back, extending measurements beyond a fixed laboratory environment. A single unit supports up to 22 measurement channels, while two connected units can provide up to 52 channels.
Features
- Non-invasive measurement of changes in Oxy-Hb, Deoxy-Hb, and Total-Hb using three-wavelength absorbance calculations.
- Three-wavelength near-infrared semiconductor laser light source, Class 1.
- Sensitive detection using an avalanche photodiode.
- Up to 22 channels per unit or up to 52 channels with two connected systems.
- Operation from an AC adapter or lithium-ion battery.
- Compact design suitable for research on movement, behavior, and cognitive tasks in more natural settings.
