Description
The Shimadzu LABNIRS functional near-infrared spectroscopy system is a multichannel laboratory instrument for non-invasive investigation of hemodynamic responses in the cerebral cortex. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) enables researchers to evaluate changes in oxygenated hemoglobin (Oxy-Hb), deoxygenated hemoglobin (Deoxy-Hb), and total hemoglobin (Total-Hb) associated with cognitive, sensory, and motor tasks.
LABNIRS supports high-density optical channel arrangements and scalable configurations from 10 to 142 measurement channels (4 to 40 optical fiber sets). The system uses three near-infrared semiconductor laser wavelengths and photomultiplier tube detection for sensitive signal acquisition. Its software provides result visualization, optical fiber placement configuration, data filtering, and statistical analysis.
Features
- Measurement of changes in Oxy-Hb, Deoxy-Hb, and Total-Hb for studying cortical hemodynamic responses.
- Scalable multichannel configuration with 10 to 142 measurement channels.
- Near-infrared semiconductor laser illumination at three wavelengths.
- High-sensitivity detection using a photomultiplier tube.
- High-temporal-resolution measurements and support for densely arranged optical channels.
- Software tools for activity mapping, signal filtering, batch processing, and statistical analysis, including the general linear model (GLM).
- Support for short-distance measurements to help reduce superficial blood flow effects.
The instrument is intended for research in neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology, and related fields. Not intended for diagnostic procedures.
