Microchip electrophoresis system, MCE-202 MultiNA

Shimadzu (Japan)

Description

The Shimadzu MCE-202 MultiNA microchip electrophoresis system is designed for automated DNA and RNA analysis, nucleic acid fragment sizing, and concentration estimation. The instrument provides an alternative to conventional agarose gel electrophoresis, offering high sensitivity, reproducible results, and reduced analysis time without the need for manual gel preparation.

The system automates the main analytical steps, from sample introduction and electrophoretic separation to fluorescence detection and data processing. After creating an analysis schedule, the operator simply loads the samples and reagents and starts the measurement. The MCE-202 MultiNA can automatically process batches of up to 108 loaded samples using four microchips in parallel. Results from completed measurements can be reviewed before the entire batch is finished.

Features

  • Fully automated electrophoretic analysis of DNA and RNA with minimal operator intervention.
  • Capacity for up to 108 loaded samples for automated analysis.
  • Parallel operation of four reusable microchips with an analysis cycle time of approximately 80 seconds under standard DNA analysis conditions.
  • High-sensitivity fluorescence detection with LED excitation at a wavelength of 470 nm.
  • Internal markers for automatic calibration, fragment size determination, and improved result reproducibility.
  • Four DNA reagent kits covering separation ranges from 25 to 12,000 base pairs and a dedicated RNA analysis kit.
  • Automatic cleaning of reusable quartz microchips after analysis.
  • Software for displaying electropherograms, gel images, peak tables, and exporting results in CSV format.

Applications

  • Analysis of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products.
  • Genotyping and genetic variation studies.
  • DNA and RNA quality assessment in molecular biology research.
  • Quality control of next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries.
  • Investigation of mutations induced by genome editing technologies.
  • Microbiological and biotechnological research, and food analysis.

The system is intended for research use only and is not intended for clinical diagnostic procedures.
